AREA URBANA arises from the desire to approach urban planning and architecture as one type of intervention, from the big to the small, and from the small to the big.
AREA represents free space; URBANA represents a settlement.
Monica Farran Astica
Architect graduated from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (ETSAB - UPC), with subsequent completion of a specialization course in Urban Sustainability and a Master's Degree in Large Scale Architecture from the UPC.
Professor of hotel architecture at the School of Hotel Management (CETT - UB) in 1993-1997. Founding member of the School of Architecture at the International University of Catalonia (UIC), member of the Academic Council and professor of urban planning in 1998-2000. In 1997 she founded AREA URBANA, specializing in urban planning and edification in the tourist environment. In recent years, she has carried out numerous rehabilitation projects in heritage buildings, both for public entities and privates.
She has collaborated with the architect JE Hernández-Cros in various rehabilitation projects, among which are: the Our Lady of Mercè Pavilion (Sant Pau Hospital, Barcelona, Spain) and the Cau Ferrat, Maricel and Can Rocamora Museums (Sitges, Spain).
She has participated in various competitions in collaboration with Mendoza-Partida: Volta i Volta Biblioteca (Suria, Spain) and Borsí Building (Barcelona, Spain).
In recent years, she has carried out several projects with the architect Montse Arrufat, as the central headquarters of the University of La Rioja (Logroño, Spain).
In the area of urban design, it is worth highlighting its collaborations with various municipalities and with the Generalitat de Catalunya.
